As part of the Global Inequalities Course, the DepHUB's Shamira Ahmed gave a guest lecture at the Università degli Studi di Firenze (UniFI)
On 6th May, coordinated by Professor Paolo Brunori, the DepHUB's Shamira Ahmed gave a guest lecture at the Università degli Studi di Firenze (UniFI).
The lecture was based on Shamira's inputs on previous and ongoing work as part of the following projects:
1. GPAI Report, "Towards Real Diversity and Gender Equality in AI"
2. T20 Policy Brief, " Why the G20 Should Lead Multilateral Reform for Inclusive Responsible AI Governance for the Global South".
3. Future of Work in the global South (FOWIGS): Digital Labour, New Opportunities and Challenges.
The presentation highlighted that :
Bridging the global AI divide requires addressing the underlying structural inequalities that perpetuate disparities in the AI lifecycle and requires concerted efforts from governments, private sector, international organizations, and civil society.
Systemic injustice is rooted in historical power dynamics , a decolonial informed approach (DIA) and critical analysis of positionality, reflexivity, and intersectionality is needed for diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) in AI ecosystems.
DIA is crucial for responsible global AI governance to address power imbalances, encourage capacity building to legitimise international cooperation, and ensure that the expertise, experience, and perspectives of Global Majority stakeholders are considered.
