DepHUB shares preliminary research on "Gender Equity for A Just Green-Digital Twin Transition" in South Africa

As part of the "Scientific Session on Societal Relevance", at the WRF Conference the DepHUB's Shamira Ahmed shared our preliminary findings on "Gender Equity for A Just Green-Digital Twin Transition" , as part of our flagship project on Responsible AI for Africa's Just Transition to the Circular Economy— A multicountry sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) research project.

Shamira spoke about :

(i) The lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) throughout the AI lifecycle, existing systemic dynamics in the South African labour force, particularly in industries without smoke-stacks (IWoSS) that inhibit meaningful participation from women;and,

(ii) Intersectional structural inequities, and the interdependencies between data economy policy and contextually relevant ethical and responsible AI governance that supports a just green- digital twin transition and overall sustainable digital transformation, in South Africa, and beyond.

The research presented at the session is part of the DepHUB's on-going project on "Responsible AI for Africa's Just Transition to the Circular Economy".
